Born in Toronto, I grew up living in and around the Annex with a very a-typical single-parent upbringing living in my mom's apartment, yet while trying to maintain a normal childhood by immersing myself in everyday kid's stuff.
At the age of fifteen, I moved out and embarked on my own journey away from the life I had previously known, immersing myself into various sub-cultures that involved art, music, and the occasional mind-altering substance.
After experiencing years of hardships and good times (occasionally with difficulty differentiating between the two), I currently reside in the Yonge and Eglinton neighborhood and co-exist with a very random assortment of people who enrich my life on a daily basis.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I have always had a slightly skewed view on existence. I believe there to be so much around us that goes un-noticed or un-though about, and that people are way too busy trying to conform to their sub-concious view on how they should be, even if that view is that they are a 'free spirit'. (ie: being closed-minded to anything with the vague scent of bureaucracy)
These patterns of behavior have never ceased to fascinate me, and the reasoning between why these patterns exist, and the link between whether it is because of nature or nurture, have consistanly encouraged me to seek out a sort of un-predictability in my own life. I enjoy 'the random', so to speak.
MY WORK:
Trying my best to see the world around me by putting myself in other people's shoes, I've have found there to be much 'gray area' in the world. Be it in people's opinions, motivations, or otherwise I believe that by breaking down single moments (for example moments captured via photography) and exaggerating particular aspects of detail using a specific color, we can express a particular belief or thought within that contained realm.
It is my goal to break down the world into smaller, bite-sized pieces.Being the prism, so that one can achieve a greater understanding of one's fellow man and the world around him as a whole, by looking at the parts of its sum.
OTHERS' WORK
I believe it's good to keep a diverse collection of pieces nearby of others' work, because the flavor of one's work for me is very important, and I have somewhat of a broad palette. The art I find that most inspires me, is that which is most unique.
The artists featured in my Favorites, are those pieces that for some reason or another, I just enjoy. Their pieces may be simply well-drawn, or they may have a more deeper meaning to me that I empathize with consciously or sub-consciously.
I enjoy both photography and illustration as mediums, and feel amazed that through still images, we can feel the most moved.
